H. Dohn Williams, Jr., has practiced law in South Florida for over 45 years. Before going into private practice, Dohn was an Assistant State Attorney in charge of the Special Investigations and Political Corruption Division of the Broward County State Attorney’s Office. After leaving the State Attorney’s Office, Dohn was Chief Assistant Public Defender defending clients charged with murder, as well as training young lawyers like Howard Finkelstein, the Broward County Public Defender, known to South Florida TV viewers as “Help Me Howard.”
Noted criminal defense lawyer, Joseph Varon, asked Dohn to join him as a partner in his law firm, along with Steadman Stahl, J. David Bogenschutz, and Harry Gulkin. Dohn’s mentor, Joseph Varon, was featured on A&E Network’s special on Meyer Lansky. Joe was Meyer Lansky’s lawyer and friend.
Dohn believes that a successful criminal trial lawyer must be able relate to the “common man.” Because, juries are comprised of hardworking people from all walks of life. Dohn was born and raised in Miami. Dohn’s father lived in Miami for 90 years before he passed away. Dohn’s grandfather was a City of Miami Policeman injured in the line of duty.
Dohn is a product of the Florida public-school system — David Fairchild Elementary, South Miami Junior High, Coral Gables High School, Miami-Dade Junior College, Florida Atlantic University, and Florida State University Law School. Dohn worked full-time during undergraduate school. Dohn loaded trucks at the Miami Herald, worked for Mackle Bros/Deltona Corp., stocked shelves at Winn-Dixie, and worked as a substitute school teacher. Unlike lawyers born, raised, and educated in a country club lifestyle, Dohn can relate to the working men and women who will he your potential jurors.
